Dropped 3 shots after my coach stopped giving me 5 swing thoughts per lesson and focused on one. Why doesn't anyone say this?

Found a coach rated by real students. Best $80/hr I've spent. Previous coach was $180 and I was going backwards.

The BS Meter called out that YouTube guru everyone recommends. His advice is for scratch players. Finally.

Went from 12 to 7 in 14 months. Lesson audit checklist was the turning point. Finally knew what to ask.

The equipment
industry is lying
to your face.

Every year. Same promise. 5 to 10 more yards. A revolutionary new face. A breakthrough in ball speed. And a $900 price tag to prove it. Here's what they don't tell you.

The tour pros swinging the new driver on launch day? Check the bag two tournaments later. Nine times out of ten, it's gone β€” replaced by a model from two years ago that they actually trust.

If a $900 driver genuinely added 10 yards every single year, tour pros would be hitting it 400 metres by now. They're not. And neither are you.

πŸ’Έ
$900
The New Driver Tax
The average new premium driver costs nearly $1,000. Independent robot testing consistently shows distance gains of 1–3 yards over models from 3+ years ago. That's roughly $300 per yard β€” if you're lucky.
πŸ“…
2 Wks
The Tour Pro Window
Watch closely after any major equipment launch. Tour pros play the new driver for the first one or two events β€” the ones covered by their contract β€” then quietly revert to the club they actually trust. Nobody mentions it.
πŸ“
USGA
The Legal Ceiling
Drivers have been at the legal limit of ball speed and face flexibility since the early 2000s. The USGA caps it. So the "revolutionary face technology" you're paying for? It's largely marketing language dressed up in aerospace jargon.
πŸ‘€
The Dirty Secret Nobody Talks About
Tour pros are paid to use new equipment. They're not paid to win with it.
Equipment contracts require players to put new gear in play around launch dates β€” it's a marketing window, not a performance decision. When the cameras move on and the contract clock resets, the old trusted model comes back out of the truck. This happens across every major manufacturer, every single season. The players know it. The caddies know it. Now you do too.
A well-fitted 3-year-old driver will outperform an off-the-shelf new model for most amateur golfers. Fitting matters more than the year on the hosel.
The second-hand market is where smart golfers shop. Last year's $900 driver is this year's $250 driver β€” and the physics didn't change overnight.
Shaft fitting moves the needle more than head technology for 95% of amateur golfers. But shafts don't photograph well in ads, so you never hear about them.
